Background Research
Historical:
The Trebuchet was a siege machine used in Medieval times, though it is believed to originate in China. One example of the power of these machines is called "Warwolf", it was so massive that when Edward Longshank (Edward I) used it in battle it leveled a whole section of a castle's with one blow.
Onagers were created by the Romans and used throughout history, till the introduction of the cannon. The Romans and would use horse hair as rope, and in times of shortages it has been said they used human hair.
Viking catapults are actually a modern catapult used more for fun and not for warfare since we have such advanced technology in warfare.
Factual Summary:
The trebuchet is the only catapult in this experiment that does not use tension as its power source but gravity and leverage, but while the onager uses wound up rope, the viking uses elastic or stretchy rope to fling the projectile.
